Undoubtedly the place to get a taste of ‘Ammi’s pittu’ or ‘Aachi’s chicken curry,’ the Hopper Night at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is back, this time at the Waterside. The Waterside is the hotel’s new garden venue by the Beira waters, an idyllic setting for a Sri Lankan feast.
Hopper Night is the hotel’s monthly tribute to all that is nostalgically local. From the entertainment and décor to the food, it is a celebration of Sri Lankan culture.
Amongst the dishes that comprise the buffet, are fish ambulthiyal – a sour, dry preparation of fish, fish curry, tripe or ‘babath’ curry, spicy beef curry, deep fried cuttlefish, potato curry, chicken curry, string hoppers, pittu, kottu rotti, crispy hoppers, egg hoppers and a range of stuffed hoppers including pani pol hoppers, kiri appa, cheese and chilli hoppers and masala hoppers.
Guests at Hopper Night will be invited to indulge in a selection of Sri Lankan sweets. Lavariya, dodol, milk toffee, kokis, kavum, asmi, halapa, mung kavum, coconut rock and banana fritters, amongst many other treats, will grace the dessert counter. In true Sri Lankan style, guests will be served a ginger tea at the end of the meal, which is best enjoyed over a hearty chat with fellow diners.
Keeping guests entertained throughout the night will be a calypso band that will make its way around playing songs on request.
This month’s Hopper Night will be held on Friday, 25 March from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and is priced at Rs. 1,200++++. Reservations and further inquiries will be entertained on 2491998.
