Indian street food is too tempting to resist, even the slightest mention of mutton samosa and chai masala will leave your mouth drooling. However, a concern for food safety often keeps us from binging on these street treats. What if you could have the goodness of authentic street food with the guarantee of 5 star hygiene standards? Need we say more.

Drop by Khao Galli at the Taj Samudra Colombo to enjoy a sprightly décor that give vibes of India’s famous street food destinations. “Khao Galli” in English means a food lane that offers street food on either side of the lane. To make this experience as authentic as possible, speciality chefs join us from Vivanta by Taj – Ambassador, New Delhi.

Khao Galli at Taj Samudra will be a swanky yet rustic set up at the pool side. There will be various food counters offering streets snacks, beverages and desserts. Lap up the flavorsome comfort food like Dosas – a south Indian special, it is a fermented crepe or pancake made from rice batter and black lentils traditionally served with Sambar and wet Chutney.

Or savour the Pao Bhaji – a popular food dish that originated in Marathi cuisine – Pao bhaji consists of bhaji (a thick potato-based curry) garnished with coriander, chopped onion and a dash of lemon with baked bread.

Also offered is the well known Indian savoury snack – Chaat. Typically served at road-side tracks from stalls or carts in India – Chaat comes from the Hindi word “to lick.”

And don’t forget to dig into the sinful sweet treats offered at the festival. Pineapple keshari halwa – a caramelised pineapple cooked with semolina to a smooth succulent texture deserves a special mention by virtue of its lip-smacking qualities. One must certainly khao at this unique galli!
