This August, an Indonesian food festival comes alive at the Latitude - Taj Sumdra Colombo from 12 Friday to 21 Saturday. A team of culinary experts from the famous Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel will be in Sri Lanka to bring us the best of Indonesia’s authentic cuisine.
Executive Sous Chef Nyoman Wirata, Sous Chef Nyoman Chandra and Master Chef Made Somnita will be flown down with a group of Balinese performers. Bali, as many know, is one of the most exotic and sought-after holiday destinations in the world. Located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia, it lies between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. Bali is no doubt the largest tourist destination in the country, and is renowned for its delightful cuisine and glorious art.
Indonesian food is rich with flavour and is essentially spicy with generous quantities of chillie, garlic, lemongrass, coriander and many Asian spices local to this part of the world. Chef Wirate will create some of his most sought after signature specials such as, goreng ayam – a traditional fried chicken dish popular among natives and tourists in Indonesia, lawar kacang – snake bean in light spices, and tuna sambal matah – grilled fish topped with chopped chillies, shallots, lemongrass and ginger, usually served with yellow rice.
Alongside the magnificent spread of Indonesia’s best cuisine will be live entertainment. Beautiful Balinese performers will keep you amused and entertained through the night with their traditional dance acts. Their style of dance is traditionally a reflection on the island’s culture, history and mythology. Indonesian dance contains typically slow yet stunning movements that mesmerise the audience. This experience is presented in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Colombo. For dinner only. Call 2446622 or e-mail [email protected] to make your reservation.
