The Indonesian food festival at Taj Samudra’s Latitude will run until Sunday, 21 August, 2011.
Following a grand opening ceremony, the much talked about Indonesian food festival ‘Indonesia Invites You’ commenced at the Latitude, Taj Samudra last Friday, 12 August.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa, the Chief Guest for the evening along with the Indonesian Ambassador Djfar Husein, Area Director for Taj Hotels Sri Lanka Rohit Khosla, Thai Ambassador Thinakorn Kanasuta and Vietnamese Ambassador Ton Finh Thanh graced the opening ceremony with their presence.
This festival has brought with it, not only the incredible food but also the culture Indonesia. The Indonesian Embassy in Colombo is currently involved in the efforts to bring this festival alive and make this experience as authentic as possible to its guests.
The décor, music and food at the festival are remarkably exotic; the costumes worn by dancers stand out for Bali’s unique and exquisite patterns in bright gold and other rich colours. The aroma of the food and the ambiance at the Latitude lets you experience a little bit of Indonesia which leaves you wondering what it would be like to actually visit.
Apart from the food and the exotic performances, another major attraction is the carving station of Indonesian Master Chef Made Somnita.
Here, one can witness the transformation of any fruit into a beautiful carving of a face or a figure, in just minutes.
Chef Somnita is globally famed for his talent in bringing mythical creatures and other figures into life on his carving master pieces.
The Indonesian chefs are extremely friendly and enjoy interacting with their guests, and discussing their wonderful home island and its magnificent culture.
Taj Samudra Colombo takes great pleasure in hosting events that has potential to liven up Colombo with a little bit of culture.
This is one of many cultural festivals lined for this year at the hotel. Please call Taj Samudra on 2446622 or email [email protected] for reservations and more details.
