The concept of mock cocktails, or what’s now more popularly known as ‘Mocktails’ has fast become the latest fad amongst the youth of Sri Lanka as everybody seems to enjoy the consumption of a drink without the guilt of alcohol. Mocktails can provide all the fun of a cocktail without making you do anything you’d regret and it even keeps all your senses at the height of your game till the end!
These magical Mocktail concoctions are tasty treats for all ages and attitudes.
With EGB’s champion bartender “Dain” mixing up a variety of the coolest mocktails using the time tested recipes of natural ginger beer, the EGB Mocktail Bar stole the stage at The Hawker Street World Spice Food Village held recently, attracting youth and proving that if one wants to make the most succulent mocktail, then nothing can be better than EGB.
In addition, an EGB Mocktail Championship saw 16 bartenders from the participating hotels compete against each other for the coveted EGB Mocktail Trophy and cash prizes. The judging panel included well known personalities from the Hotel, Food and Beverage arenas, including Allan Palmer, Eraj Abeywardene and Hiran Serasinghe.
The Champion, Viraj Ashmantha of Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo and Runner Up, Nalaka Seneviratne of Ceylon Continental Hotel walked away with attractive cash prizes, when the winners were announced at the closing ceremony held at the Water’s Edge early this week.
According to the organisers, the benefits for the champions will not end there, as they will receive many more rewards in terms of sponsorships and other assistance when taking part in such competitions in future.
For the judges, selecting a winner was no easy task, considering the many innovative mocktail recipes that were presented and according to them, the enthusiasm shown by the competitors in presenting their ideas were overwhelming.
Whilst the winning mocktail was titled ‘Elelctric Ginger Breeze’ which included a mix of Nelli Cordial, Fresh Mint Leaves, Lime Wedges and Green Apple Cubes topped with EGB the close second was the ‘Splendid EGB’ which included a mix of Kirala Juice, Coconut Syrup, Cardamom and Cloves topped up with EGB.
