You can now enjoy a scrumptious Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo breakfast in the familiar surroundings of your own kitchen.  A quick trip to Goodies, the basement level delicatessen of the hotel, and you can avail yourself a jar of homemade sandwich spread along with a loaf of freshly baked bread to go with it.

The spreads come in four varieties, Chocolate, Chocolate and Hazelnut, Crunchy Peanut Butter and Kaya Pandan, all prepared in the hotel’s kitchens with absolutely no preservatives added.

It is the first hotel in Sri Lanka to offer an item of its kind, and Goodies is the only place in the country to offer Kaya Pandan for sale.  Kaya Pandan is a sweet and creamy spread made from a base of coconut and sugar.

The fresh flavour of Pandan leaves, otherwise known as Screwpine or ‘Rampe’ gives it an unmistakably Southeast Asian taste.

In that part of the world ‘Kaya toast’ is a popular treat for anytime of the day.  The idea for Kaya toast was born during the times Hainanese people worked on British ships as kitchen hands.  When they eventually settled down in Malaya and began selling food influenced by the British such as coffee and toast, they used Kaya instead of jams and preserves and it was an immediate hit.

Introducing the homemade spreads was the brainchild of Chef Lakshman Silva, Assistant Pastry Chef at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo who was inspired by a six year stint in Singapore.  “We are happy to offer guests a homemade product of high nutritional value at local prices” says Chef Lakshman.  “The product has become instantly popular amongst children much to their parents’ delight.”

The crunchy peanut butter is made from scratch and the nut content in this as well as the chocolate and hazelnut spread add to the food value of your breakfast choice.  The chocolate as well as the chocolate and hazelnut spreads are made from fine Indonesian cocoa.  These jars full of indulgence are great as dips, waffle and crepe toppings as well as on crackers.  If you’re having guests over, impress them with these spreads which will serve as great snacks and conversation pieces.

It is important to note that the product is fresh and free of preservatives, therefore has a shelf life of three weeks as marked on the jars.  Goodies opens bright and early at 7.30 a.m and the staff there are happy to serve you until closing time at 9 p.m.  They will assist with more information when contacted on 2491804.
