Cinnamon Grand associates created history at the 20th All Island Marie Brizard Bartenders Cocktail Competition & Flaring Finals 2011 by winning the top two coveted awards of Classical and Flaring Bartending in a stunning display of skill and talent.

This is the first time in the history of the competition that one hotel has won both categories.  Cinnamon Grand’s winning feat also included the awards for the Best Presented Cocktail and Most Friendliest Bartender, as well as the second place in the Best Creative Cocktail Category.

This year, 200 top-bartenders from both city and resort hotels competed in the preliminary qualifying rounds, held at six different regional levels. Cinnamon Grand’s E.Cheshan Buddhika of the Breeze Bar restaurant won the first place in the Flaring Category for his creative cocktail and flaring abilities, while in the Classical Category A.M.D Sampath of the Chutneys restaurant notched the top spot.

He also won the Friendliest Bartender Award. R.A Thanushi Perera of the Courtyard restaurant of Cinnamon Grand also secured the third place in this category.

The Award for The Best Presented Cocktail was won by Nisansala De Alwis of the Taprobane restaurant. She also bagged the second place for the Best Creative Cocktail Award.

The Cinnamon Grand team was trained by Manager Training (F&B Department) Asiri Condegama, under the supervision of Assistant Food & Beverage Manager Travis Casather.

“It was non-stop training 24/7, even after we won the Colombo District Competition. It was really worth it,” the team said expressing their sentiments about this great accolade. “We wish to place on record our sincere thanks to our motivational and training Guru Asiri Condegama and Travis Casather for his unstinted support and encouragement.

We are honoured to bring both these coveted awards to the Cinnamon Grand,” the jubilant Cinnamon Grand associates said prior to leaving for Singapore to participate at the Marie Brizard World Bartenders Cocktail Competition & Flaring Finals, in Dubai.

The Marie Brizard Bartenders Cocktail Competition is a much-looked forward event in the hotel sector and is considered the key platform to showcase, reward and recognise the talents of up-coming bartenders.

The event was organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and Free Lanka Trading.
