Cinnamon Grand Colombo won the Best Theme Restaurant Award and The Best Spice Ice Cream Corner Award at the World Spice Food Festival organised by Sri Lanka Tourism, at Water’s Edge hotel last week.
Cinnamon Grand, showcased Pakistani Food at the festival, with the expertise of leading Pakistani Master Chef Amir Khan. The Cinnamon Grand’s Chef Brigade worked in conjunction with Chef Khan to create this 10 day, nightly feast of Pakistani cuisine.
The authenticity of the cuisine in keeping with the selected country’s food theme and the décor/ambiance of the restaurant were key criteria for the Best Theme Restaurant Award.
The Best Spice Ice Cream Corner Award was based on the use of spices in an innovative ice cream dessert and the Cinnamon Grand’s team won the award for its innovative ice cream corner, which was infused and inspired by the Cinnamon spice.
Chef M.R.P Dias of Cinnamon Grand also won the third place for the Colombo Chicken Curry Challenge!
According to Executive Chef Chaminda Liyanage, the team under the guidance of Master Chef Amir ensured that quality ingredients went into the preparation of each and every dish.
The Cinnamon Grand also did not limit its commitment to excellence to just the showcase of cuisine, but went one step further by seeking the expertise of one of Sri Lanka’s leading designers Senaka De Silva, to create an authentic ambience and decor to complement the cuisine.
The entrance to the restaurant was decorated in a stunning display of spices, conjuring images of an actual Bazaar whilst the restaurant was decorated with authentic rugs, tapestries and earthenware-including artefacts and colourful handicrafts in keeping with the Pakistani theme. Staff dressed in Pakistani traditional garb and music further complemented the aesthetic setting.
