Billy Ocean to perform in Colombo on Valentine’s Day

The Grammy-award winning artist will be gracing our shores and giving you a performance of a lifetime.

Born Leslie Sebastian Charles in Trinidad and Tobago to Grenadian parents, his earliest introduction to music came from his father who was also a musician. During his teen years, he sang regularly in London clubs while working as a tailor. He took his stage name from the Ocean Estate in Stepney, where he was living at the time.

The Loverboy, who’s sold over 30 million records in his lifetime, will croon and serenade you with all your favourites on Valentines Day 2012 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Center, 7pm onwards. You are promised a night of all his biggest and best hits that have topped charts and won him numerous awards.

Love Really Hurts Without You - Billy Ocean’s breakthrough hit. It hit number two in the UK charts and number 12 in the US.

Caribbean Queen - Taken off the album, Suddenly, this mega single hit number one on both the soul singles and Hot 100 in the U.S and number six in the UK in 1984. He won a Grammy for best R&B Vocal in 1985.

Loverboy - Billy Ocean’s second single from his 1984 album “Suddenly”. The song reached a chart high of number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and number 15 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1985. It also reached number one of the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in the U.S., in an extended version.

Suddenly - the single, written by Ocean reached the top five on the UK Singles Chart in mid-1985, peaking at number four. The song reached the same chart peak on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, spending two weeks at number four in June of that year. It peaked at number five on the Billboard R&B chart and spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard adult contemporary chart.

When The Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going - The song was used as the theme song for the Michael Douglas film “The Jewel of the Nile”, the sequel to the hit blockbuster film “Romancing the Stone”. The song became a major international hit reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in February 1986 and number two on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car - The song went to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Black Singles chart. It also peaked at three on the UK Singles Chart. The song was also featured in the soundtrack of the 1988 film “License to Drive”.

This amazing artist is set to teach our little paradise island all about love come Valentines Day 2012. Billy Ocean will be the only international artist to perform on Valentines Day in Sri Lanka and it will be a one-of-a-kind event that’s not to be missed!
