Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in Doha on Wednesday.
They discussed ways to enhance cooperation in different fields including energy, trade, investment and defense. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is on a two day official visit to Qatar.
In his remarks during the meeting, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan offers attractive incentives for foreign investment and Qatar Investment Authority should explore the potential in different sectors particularly power generation projects.
He said that Pakistan values its bilateral relations with Qatar and both countries enjoy friendly relations. Prime Minister said Pakistan is a suitable country for investment and quantum of investment should be enhanced.
Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani thanked Prime Minister for visit and said that Qatar is second home for Pakistanis. He said Pakistanis have contributed substantially in the development of Qatar.
Subsequently, Pakistan and Qatar signed four agreement and Memorandums of Understanding to increase cooperation in diverse fields between the two countries. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani witnessed the signing ceremony in Doha.
The most important agreement signed today is regarding import of LNG from Qatar. It was signed by Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chairman of Qatar Gas. Under the agreement Pakistan will import 3.75 million tons of LNG annually from Qatar which will fulfill 20% needs of Pakistan.
MOUs for enhancing bilateral cooperation with Qatar in Radio and TV, education, health and academic research were also signed.
