DHAKA (Reuters) - Bangladesh will receive nearly 200 million euro in grant from the European Union (EU) over the next three years, a statement from the bloc said on Thursday.
Bangladesh’s government and the EU signed a memorandum on development programmes to be financed over the period 2011-2013, the statement said.
“We had extensive consultations ... we have developed a comprehensive package which will make best use of European taxpayers’ money ... and which will provide a lasting and positive contribution to the development of Bangladesh”, said Stefan Frowein, ambassador of the European Union Delegation.
The main aim of the EU assistance is to contribute to sustainable reduction of poverty in Bangladesh, it said.
