Despite the mark it has made in the international arena for quality and precision, Sri Lanka’s ceramic industry today is facing tough times in the face of rising energy costs, economic decline in export markets, lost concessions, sluggish demand in the local market and inconsistent polices among others, placing the industry in a fragile position in the market.
The industry, which experienced rapid growth up till 2010 growing at a tremendous pace backed by a good export market, is today experiencing a negative growth rate and has lost approximately 20% of its total revenue this year.
