Wavenet, the region’s leading Value Added Service Platform (VAS) company based in Sri Lanka, recently engaged with Millicom International Cellular S.A. to power the transformation of the service delivery capability of their mobile networks in Africa to a next generation, all IP architecture. The transformation is based on Wavenet’s core technology around its Spark IPMS platform, which has been widely deployed in operators across the region. Spark IPMS is a Pre-MRF software based media server for Next Generation Networks. Spark IPMS allows quick deployment of a range of value added media services across mobile and fixed-line networks irrespective of the access method (2G/GSM/CDMA/UMTS). With feature rich host media processing technology IPMS provides a cost effective platform for managing and deploying various types of voice VAS services. The initial phase of the project covers four countries with another two being brought online early next year. “We are privileged that Millicom selected Wavenet as the partner of choice for this project. We were successful in showcasing our product and capability through the stringent evaluation process and making them feel comfortable that we are the right people to work with,” said Suren Pinto, CEO of Wavenet. Millicom International Cellular S.A. is a global telecommunications group with mobile telephony operations in 14 countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia. The Group’s mobile operations have a combined population under license of approximately 267 million people. Wavenet is a leading supplier of core network value added infrastructure and solutions to telecommunications companies across the world.
