SPIKE aims to be a monthly meetup of Sri Lanka’s cutting-edge startup teams, tech-entrepreneurs, investors and interested others.
The first meetup will happen on Thursday, 13 November at 6 p.m. at the BayLeaf Restaurant Bar on Gregory’s Road in Colombo 7.
SPIKE was setup by two people who are part of the tech ecosystem, who realised that there was no regular forum to meet other like-minded peers to share ideas, discuss challenges and simply network.
While Sri Lanka’s ICT community is active with conferences, meetings, hackathons and other events – there are no regular meetups, in an informal context, where people can network and listen to their peers and their ideas.
“There are weekly or monthly meetups for the tech startup community in many cities around the world, but there is no regular event in Sri Lanka,” says SPIKE’s co-founder Eshan Salpadoru.
“Our aim is to provide a friendly space and a regular date. Over time, we will have fast pitching sessions and give opportunities for investors to understand and partner with young and seasoned entrepreneurs,” adds Eshan.
“I used to organise coffees and drinks with people I wanted to meet. We thought it would be better if there was a regular date, time and location where the members of the tech ecosystem could meet as a community, and where new friendships and partnerships could be formed,” adds SPIKE’s other co-founder Sam de Silva.
The first meetup will feature lightning talks by Lahiru Pathmalal from Takas and Rayhana Lyne from Glitteray. Both will share their experiences, future plans and challenges they face as they build and grow their startups.
The talks kick off at 6 p.m. on Thursday 13 November at: The Bayleaf at 97 Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.
