The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team |Coordination Centre (Sri Lanka CERT|CC), a subsidiary of the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), has taken yet another initiative to protect websites.
Under this endeavour, seminars will be held for those maintaining websites in Government institutions. Subsequently these seminars are scheduled to be extended to the private sector institutions as well.
As a first phase in this exercise seminars will be held for the Chief Innovation Officers (CIOs) on how to protect a website from a cyber attack. The first such seminar for CIOs will be held on 20 March. Among topics expected to be covered in these seminars are updating information on website in a safe manner, importance of using a strong password for a website, and immediate strategy to be adopted when a website is subjected to a cyber attack. ICTA also underlines that it is very important to carry out a vulnerability assessment before a website is released to the internet. ICTA says that by now websites have been created for about 476 Government institutions.
