SEARCC International Conference starts today

The SEARCC Interna-tional Conference commenced today (12 August) in Colombo, organised by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka. The conference will be held at the Galadari from 12 to 14 August 2013. Today, the inauguration will be held in the evening and conference sessions will be held over the next two days. The CSSL annually organises the National Information Technology Conference (NITC), which is one of the top ICT events in Sri Lanka. This year, CSSL in partnership with South Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC) has organised the SEARCC International Conference 2013 under the theme of ‘I3CT: Innovation, Integration for Impact’. The inauguration of the conference is scheduled to take place with Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister for International Monetary Co-operation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, as the Chief Guest and Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Technology, Research and Atomic Energy as the Guest of Honour. CSSL Publication Secretary Yasas V. Abeywickrama announced that the conference has attracted well over 500 registrants to learn from an excellent line-up of speakers. He added that international speakers and delegates from Australia, India, Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region have arrived in Colombo to attend this important event. Abeywickrama said: “CSSL President Mahesh Perera, Vice President Ajitha Salgado and the council have taken steps to organise a high calibre conference with international participation. In addition to the speaker sessions, the conference will also feature three workshops conducted by the Computer Societies of Australia, India and Malaysia. We are hopeful that this will help the growth of the information and communications technology sector in Sri Lanka, as well as the region.”
