More than 16,000 registrations have by now been made under www.srilanka.lk for obtaining eServices, says the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).
ICTA says that the people’s interest in availing themselves of eServices keeps increasing and that in the past month registration for this has increased by about 25 per cent.
Currently opportunity has been made available for people to obtain about 25 eServices provided by about 14 Government institutions close to the people. A good number of these eServices were launched on 3 September; others had been launched earlier. Majority of services are available online while some of them are available both online and via SMS. In addition to these, preparations have been made to introduce 12 more eServices in the near future, says ICTA.
Anyone could register himself/herself free of charge under www.srilanka.lk for obtaining the required eServices. If anyone encounters any problem in obtaining the required eService(s), he/she could have it solved by contacting 1919, the Government Information Centre (GIC), ICTA adds.
These eServices contribute much towards the fulfilment of a pledge contained in the ‘Mahinda Chinthana – Vision for the Future,’ namely of bringing the computer to the village. The purpose of these eServices is to increase further the efficiency and people-friendliness of public service provided by Government institutions by optimum use of ICT.
Government departments/institutions and projects providing eServices currently are given in Table 1. Table 1 also indicates whether the eService is based on SMS or online. In addition Table 1 indicates the type of the eService provided, whether it’s an information service or a paying service.
