The National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel Ltd., recently introduced Dual Carrier HSPA+ (DC-HSPA+) technology, which coupled with the power of its parent company SLT’s extensive fibre network, is now offering the fastest broadband speeds in the country.
The enabling of Mobitel’s network with HSPA+ technology now means an enhanced service and extremely high speeds of up to a theoretical maximum of 42Mbps with regards to internet connectivity is offered to its broadband customers. This also means that DC-HSPA+ will be available across Mobitel’s footprint island-wide, with Mobitel leading the broadband service industry.
Recently, Mobitel embarked on an aggressive network expansion drive, signing landmark deals with industry giants ZTE Corporation and Huawei Technologies. These network enhancements will include over one thousand seven hundred 2G/3G(HSPA+) and 4G LTE base stations scattered across the country.
This current expansion of Mobitel’s network and technological footprint brings a near 100% population coverage island-wide, and also introduces 4G LTE mobile technologies in Sri Lanka.
In December 2007, Mobitel was the first in South Asia to launch the Super 3.5G HSPA network – all part of the operator’s efforts towards leading the development of the country’s ICT infrastructure in keeping with its image of being the National Mobile Service Provider.
DC-HSPA+ can be accessed only via the use of a Dual Carrier HSPA+ compatible dongle, which are now available at selected Mobitel outlets.
