MG Consultants Ltd., a leading provider of multi-disciplinary consultancy services in Sri Lanka, has expanded their portfolio by investing into local IT start-up Nimbus Venture Ltd.
Nimbus Venture Ltd. specialises in GPS vehicle/asset tracking and management offering an extensible product which can be integrated with other systems to meet the needs of multiple sectors or domains, where fleet or asset management is crucial to productivity and profitability. In addition to the solutions offered by Nimbus, third party applications will be integrated addressing both corporate and consumer segments, provisioning a ‘Platform as a Service’ for developers who will target transport and related asset tracking and management applications.
Since the company’s inception over 17 years ago, MG Consultants Ltd. (MGC) has supported development initiatives of the country by providing consultancy services to many large and complex projects funded by government agencies, major donor organisations and international development organisations that contribute to the socio-economic growth of the country. MGC is a consultancy giant in Infrastructure Development, Education, Health, Community Development, Environment and Land, and Information Communications Technology sectors in the country.
The company with its maturity believes in diversifying through strategic investments into unique ventures in new promising industry segments. This new venture is hence expected to add value and diversity to the MGC portfolio.
Expressing his views on this strategic investment, MG Consultants Managing Director Ranjith Gunaratne stated, “Information and Communication Technology is already one of the key sectors that we specialise, with us already providing ICT Consultancy services and Project Management in Business Transformation, Solution Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation and ICT industry related Surveys to numerous Government and Private Sector Organisations. We were excited when Nimbus Venture approached us with their proposal that outlined their use of new technologies, and its potential to grow that we decided to invest in order to nurture this start-up and bring their cutting-edge technology to the Sri Lankan market. We also see immense potential for this technology in foreign markets and will be looking at opening up opportunities overseas.”
Commenting on the new partnership, Nimbus Venture Chief Technology Officer Sanjaya Karunasena stated, “We are thrilled to have such an established company believe and invest in our technology. I am confident that with the backing of MG Consultants, Nimbus will be able to accelerate the development of the new technology platform so that we can take Sri Lankan ICT expertise to the global stage. Nimbus is building an ecosystem of best of breed hardware suppliers driven by the company’s policy of being device agnostic and offering customer choice, and with other platform and solution providers whose APIs will be used to offer integrated and specialised solutions to multiple markets segments.”
Furthermore, we would like to reimagine software solutions inter alia in transport management and project/construction management systems where spatio-temporal data relating to resources and assets drive game change in resource management.
