Sri Lanka’s pioneering biscuit manufacturer, Maliban Biscuit Manufactories has implemented a state-of-the-art Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform to streamline their business processes and thereby maximise efficiency. Maliban is the first company in Sri Lanka to adopt the Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (SAP S/4HANA), which will make a significant contribution in making the business processes more productive.
Maliban’s performance over the past few years has shown tremendous improvement where the company has been able to further expand their operations. Introducing novel products to the market, updating their manufacturing plants with latest machinery and integrating modern technology into the manufacturing process were some developments that resulted with business growth. Accordingly, the introduction of an automated and faster process to synergise the functions of all departments was deemed imperative.
As a result, Maliban deployed the SAP S/4HANA to help streamline input operations and bring innovation through mobility. Maliban also plans to use SAP to experience the best of business analytics and data visualisation tools for better business decision-making. “We strive to achieve the continuous improvement of our products as well as systems and processors. These improvements have already given us results. We aspire to adopt world class practices for our business and as a result management decided to adopt world’s best ERP platform to our company. I am confident that this new ERP will transform the entire organisation,” says Maliban Managing Director Kumudika Fernando.
With analytical information becoming a decisive factor for modern businesses, SAP S/4HANA will enable Maliban to equip itself with more in-depth and dynamic analyses of the market and customer demand trends. This will prepare the organisation to face the challenges of the future more effectively and efficiently. SAP S/4HANA is designed to drive business innovation with simplicity by connecting people, devices and business networks in real time to support the development of new business models. It also offers cloud, on-premise and hybrid deployment options to provide maximum choice to businesses.
Sharing his thoughts on the implementation of the new ERP platform, Maliban General Manager (Finance) Dilum Bellana said, “We will experience many cross departmental efficiencies and mitigate much work duplication within companies as well as departments. This will further improve the working environment for staff, helping us move towards a digital working environment. Moreover we will receive real time information for decision making which is a key in our business environment. This platform will link us to our business partners enabling real time order generation helping both suppliers and distributors manage optimum stock balances.”
Since its inception in 1954, Maliban has a proud legacy spanning more than six decades and is continuing to make strides in establishing itself as an innovator who provides the best for customers in terms of taste and quality. Under the guidance of Chairman Ratnapala Samaraweera and Managing Director Kumudika Fernando, Maliban constantly tries to reach new heights both in the local and international spheres. Further, equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing machinery, equipment, infrastructure and a skilled workforce, Maliban’s commitment to excellence is apparent from the wide range of novel and improved biscuits that they have introduced to the market.
