The Siemens Digital Manufacturing World Tour was successfully concluded in Colombo before a large gathering of engineers and professionals from the manufacturing, engineering and education segments at Cinnamon Lakeside on 27 January.

Anshuman Prakash, Pre-Sales Lead Consultant (India and Sri Lanka) for Mainstream Engineering, presented the patented Synchronous Technology – a breakthrough innovation in CAD modelling that delivers accelerated design, faster design changes or revisions, improved reuse of multi-CAD data, and unprecedented ease of use. There were also highlights from the latest release of Solid Edge ST8. Some of the topics covered included synchronous modelling, enhanced user productivity tools, high-quality rendering etc.

Technical Consultant Avalon D’Mello demonstrated how the latest Siemens NX improves design productivity and accelerates product engineering using new capabilities for freeform modelling, feature-based modelling, drafting and documentation, and industry-specific design. The latest NX simulation greatly expands the types of engineering problems that can be solved from NX CAE. NX Part Manufacturing Solutions help industries to maximise production efficiency across manufacturing planning and execution, helping companies to increase the performance of the machine tools, achieve better surface quality and reduce manufacturing time without compromising on quality.

This year’s customer success story was delivered by Benji Ltd. Operations Manager Sudath Fernando, on how Siemens NX was used in the reverse engineering and manufacturing of Bra Cup Moulds. The solution from Kingslake helped them to achieve over 72% cost savings as a result of direct high precision machining using the Siemens NX solution and its ability to generate tool paths directly on reverse engineered data files such as STL (Standard Triangle Language).

Siemens Industry Software Director – Business Consulting and Strategy Rahul Sehgal spoke about the Siemens industry skill development initiatives and centre of excellence for the educational sector to develop top-notch engineers and technologists for the PLM industry. This includes different programs launched to support local universities, SME industries and technical institutes to improve technical capabilities.

Siemens pioneering the way to ‘Industrie 4.0’ is driving the digital enterprise by propelling   forward the developments in electrification, automation and digitalisation of industrial processes.

The event concluded with lunch, giving the invitees an opportunity to network and exchange ideas.
