Ingres Database 10 makes migration easier

DATABASE management specialist Ingres has announced the release of version 10 of Ingress Database , its flagship open source database product.

Discussing the announcement, Ingres CEO Roger Burkhardt said, “Over the past year, we’ve seen a great deal of merger and acquisition activity in the database space, resulting in customer concerns about the fate of the impacted database technologies”.

Ingres Database 10 includes several new features that reportedly make migrating from other databases, proprietary or otherwise, even easier than before. Support for multi-version concurrency control (MVCC) has been added to provide concurrent access to the database management system, improving performance in multi-user situations.

Other changes include new column encryption capabilities and various performance enhancements, including improved bulk loading and batch query execution.

The open source Community Edition of Ingres Database 10 is available to download from the company’s site. Ingres Database is licensed under version 2 of the GNU General Public Licence (GPLv2).
