ICT champions recognised at national level schools

The 5th National level school ICT championship awarding ceremony was held recently, at the Art Theatre of University of Colombo under the patronage of Ministry of Education with the distinguished presence of Deputy Minister of Education Mohan Lal Grero. The National Level School Information and Communication Technology Champions competition which was started in 2009 is the only official competition conducted by the Information and Communication Technology branch at the school level for the subject of Information and Communication Technology. It is a special happening that the two competitions conducted separately until 2009 by the Federation of Information Technology Industrialists of Sri Lanka (FITIS) and the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) were linked with the national level competition started by the Ministry of Education in 2009. The creations of about one thousand five hundred students representing all the provinces had been submitted for this competition and the winners were selected from provincial and national levels under the junior and senior categories. Accordingly 18 winners of the students’ national level competition, two teachers of creative teachers competition, 125 outstanding students at national level, 23 student winners at the provincial level, 12 outstanding teachers at national level and two outstanding teacher trainees at national level received awards, medals and certificates. Full sponsorship for this function was provided by the Sri Lanka Information Technology Representative Institution. Professor P.W. Epasinghe of the Sri Lanka Information Technology Representative Institution, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo Dr. W.K. Hirimburegama and the officers of the University of Colombo, the Director of Information and Communication Technology of the Ministry of Education G.M. Neil Gunadasa and the officials of the ministry and the President of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) Ajith Salgadu, the officials including the president of the software unit of the Federation of Information Technology Industrialists of Sri Lanka (FITIS) Shantha Yapa, the President of the Hardware Unit Chinthaka Wijewickrama and the executive officers of WSO2 participated in this function as special invited guests.
