Hutch announced the launch of their innovative value added service TransferTo which will enable those living and working overseas to send instant credit to Hutch users residing in Sri Lanka via SMS.
TransferTo works as an airtime remittance hub that interconnects mobile operators’ prepaid systems to deliver international top-up services.
This leading edge technology has been in the forefront of the international and online top-up space and has been a market forerunner since it began. With a global reach of over five continents, TransferTo is a leader in international prepaid airtime remittances, and enables real time prepaid top-up transfers to over 185 partner mobile network operators in 70 countries, accessible to 3.6 billion prepaid users worldwide. This widespread access will ensure that Hutch customers across Sri Lanka have an easier, faster and cost effective way of being connected with their family, friends and loved ones. Through this partnership with TransferTo, Hutch adds a significant value added service for their subscribers.
Speaking about the new service, Hutch General Manager, Marketing Sanjaya Senarath says: “We signed up for this service considering the high percentage of Sri Lankan migrant workers abroad.
If you take our customer base at least 70 per cent of them would have either a family member or close friend residing overseas with some of these members providing financial support to relatives back home. Therefore we decided to establish a service that would assist this task even more – a convenient method of paying for an essential part of everyday life - mobile credit.” Hutchison Communications Lanka Ltd. COO Anand Prakash said: “Partnerships of this nature benefit both the customer as well as the service provider. It is not only an innovative, convenient way to help our customers to stay in touch but it also helps us to generate additional revenue outside of our domestic market, which in turn helps to boost the economy. We will continue to bring in newer and better technology that not only helps our customers but would also give the Company a leading edge in the services we provide.”
TransferTo’s system is simple and user friendly. Their airtime, which is also referred to as top-up or recharge, are prepaid mobile credits that can be purchased either at points of sale or in the form of scratch cards or printed vouchers featuring a PIN number. Top ups can also be done via direct real time reload to the prepaid phone.
Meanwhile TransferTo Founder and CEO Eric Barbier stated: “We welcome Hutch Sri Lanka to our international top-up network. With this connection, Sri Lankans living abroad will have more choice as to what mobiles they can recharge at home.”
