hSenid Mobile Solutions hosted TADHack 2015, the biggest international telco application development hackathon, which was successfully concluded last weekend (13-14 June), bringing numerous innovative and creative ideas to the limelight.
This event, hosted by hSenid Mobile for the second consecutive time in Sri Lanka, was extended in to two satellite locations, Colombo and Jaffna as well as Bangladesh.
The largest international Telecom Application Development Hackathon (TADHack 2015), organised in Sri Lanka by hSenid Mobile Solutions concluded with team M-Park winning the grand prize of $ 1,000 for their IoT-enabled ‘Car Park M-Pay’ system.
Speaking about this event, hSenid Mobile Solutions CEO Dinesh Saparamadu said: “We’re extremely honoured to be hosting TADHack 2015. There were an outstanding number of registrations this year and all the teams who competed had some innovative and creative solutions. Apart from the winners, projects with potential will go on to receive support services to build and develop their ideas further.”
The global event took place simultaneously in 15 locations across 11 countries around the world. With hundreds of entries registered for TADHack 2015 globally, Sri Lanka had a record number of registrations with over 500 applications, including, for the first time, corporate sector entries. The two Lankan events held in Colombo and Jaffna had a total of 20 teams competing for the global prize pot of $ 36,000. Team M-Park won the grand prize of $ 1,000 for their IoT-enabled ‘Car Park M-Pay’ system. This winning team, comprising Sajith Udayanga, Sandun Maduranga, and Shivika Pussewela, created an innovative solution for urban parking, built using the latest IoT technologies with hSenid Mobile APIs: IoT, SMS, USSD and charging.
Team Paradox comprising Chathura Kankanamge, Nuwan Chathuranga, Anushka Mahesh, Damith Karunarathne and Manoj Fernando created an on-demand ad hoc courier service ‘e-Carry’, utilising empty space in vehicles and were adjudged First Runners Up.
Team Greeen project – Haritha Thilakarathne, Thejan Rajapakshe, Milinda Laknath Arambawela, Tharinda Rodrigo and Lahiru Rathnayaka who developed an M2M (machine to machine) enabled waste management system for more efficient and effective recycling were judged Second Runners Up.
Several other teams were also given the opportunity to pitch to the Lanka Angel Network, the event’s venture funding partner, for funding, and to the LOFT 1024, the event’s incubation partner, for office space and mentoring opportunities at LOFT 1024.
Saparamadu and Dialog Axiata CIO Anthony Rodrigo kicked off TADHack 2015 after a brief keynote address.
The teams, which worked all night long, were kept awake with ad hoc entertaining performances by the hSenid Mobile team as well as a traditional ‘salu paliya’ performance by a devil dancer who kept the pace going for sleepy hackers, a paduru party among other fun and exciting performances at regular intervals.
Overall, TADHack 2015 was a great success with young developers showcasing some brilliant and innovative ideas using the latest technologies using hSenid Mobile APIs, the leader in service innovation.
