Sri Lanka’s first ever international Telco hackathon
hSenid Mobile sponsored and hosted TADHack Sri Lanka – the only global meeting place for developers to hack with telecom tools and technologies. TADHack took place in different countries on the same day where all Telco developers, partners and sponsors were connected. The main hackathon was kicked off at Madrid, Spain along with other satellite hackathons from Malaysia, Pune, Sri Lanka, Chicago, Philippines and remote entries from around the world.
With more than 60 hacks worldwide, TADHack was the most successful hackathon of Telco developers ever, acting as a catalyst to bring a wealth of new, exciting and quality apps to the Telecommunication market.
“TADHack is the ultimate opportunity for local developers to face the global Telco app market and we are glad to take our local talent to global”: hSenid Mobile CEO.
It was remarkable to see local developers seeking new ways to build Telco applications with modern technologies such as M2M (Machine to Machine). A variety of Telco applications were built which falls into categories of retail, agriculture, IT, transport, education, medical and enterprise.
Two teams from Sri Lanka were declared winners and received $ 1,000 in prize money each. The two winning teams were DIY – Do It Yourself (L. Pasindu Rumal Perera, Pasindu De Silva and J.L.D. Nishami Perera) and M-Pay (M.A. Sajith Udayanga, M.A. Sandun Maduranga, Shivika K. Pussewela and Naveen Hemachandra).
Besides the international prizes, local winners were awarded prizes from Sri Lanka’s premier telecom service provider, Dialog Axiata. These applications can be made available immediately to the public via Dialog’s Ideamart platform, the mobile service provider’s service delivery platform that enables the general public and mobile application developers to use the network features to create applications of their choice and earn returns.
Hence as a post event challenge, Ideamart announced that the first three teams to make Rs. 50,000 in revenue with their application are entitled to win a marketing package worth of Rs. 500,000. So the hackathon is not over yet for Sri Lankan developers.
All in all, developers had a great time at the Hackathon. It was a unique Sri Lankan style hackathon which had a combination of technology and entertainment such as karaoke, traditional dancers, and drummers which kept the developers awake with smiles on their faces.
