The Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) conducted two training programs on ‘Big Data and Hadoop’ recently with financial assistance from ICT Agency Sri Lanka.
Practicing ICT professionals from local software firms joined these programs held at Hilton Colombo Residencies. The training was delivered by Venugopal Krishna of Simplilearn India, who is an expert on Big Data and Hadoop.
‘Big Data and Hadoop’ is a timely topic as we now live an era where data is being generated in large volumes by various individuals and organisations. Use of data is quite essential not only for commercial affairs but also for social matters. Apache Hadoop is an open-source software framework for storage and large-scale processing of data sets. It is powerful and cost effective, said Krishna.

Yapa said that over 12 training programs were conducted by FITIS during the past one year for the benefit of local organisations and practicing ICT professionals. “We always focus on new technologies and market trends in selecting appropriate topics so that local software industry can be quite innovative and competitive he added. We express our sincere thanks and gratitude to ICTA for assisting the federation in organising these training programs,” he concluded.
Addressing the audience, FITIS Chairman Chinthaka Wijewickrama said that there is an array of programs by the federation to support individuals and organisations in ICT. “We work very closely with the Ministry and other policy makers so that as a country we can achieve the goals set ensuring the expected contribution from the ICT industry.”
