Dialog Axiata PLC together with Microimage has launched the first-ever streaming application for Sri Lankan music – ‘Thaala’. This on-demand streaming app allows users to listen to music on the go and compile and store customised playlists no matter wherever you are.
‘Thaala’ is compatible on popular OS platforms such as Android and Apple iOS, and features a comprehensive library of Sri Lankan songs of varied genres that can be accessed by Sri Lankan music enthusiasts using a smartphone from anywhere in the world. In addition, it allows users to share playlists with friends through its built-in social networking facility – the ‘Thaala Community’, and includes a list of innovative features such as dynamic playlist generation. Thaala will be made available as a HTML application compatible with all popular web browsers as well in the near future.
In addition to offering local music enthusiasts seamless access to the largest collection of Sri Lankan music, ‘Thaala’ also aims to promote and give due recognition to our performing artistes, and the application exclusively features legally acquired music. ‘Thaala’ is a totally Sri Lankan product that will protect and promote our local talents.
Microimage CEO Harsha Purasinghe said: “We are thrilled to launch yet another innovative service that will transform the Sri Lankan music industry. This is a stepping stone towards giving deserved returns to our artists, as this innovative product will distribute the majority of the service fee collected from users as royalty payments to much deserved artists who are working with respective record labels. It was a pleasure working together with Dialog and the music industry content providers to bring this service live, and we are delighted to become the proponent of ‘ethical music’ in Sri Lanka.”
Dialog Axiata PLC Group Chief Marketing Officer Amali Nanayakkara said: “With the advent of digital lifestyles ‘on-the-go’, we are proud to serve a globally dynamic Sri Lankan community with this first-ever on-demand streaming application for local music. ‘Thaala’ also serves as an effective platform to promote Sri Lankan artistes and their talents both here and abroad, and together with Microimage; Dialog is proud to offer an affordable and convenient solution that would benefit users and performers alike.”
‘Thaala’ works on a monthly subscription model at just Rs. 99 per month (plus tax), and is available free during a one-month trial period commencing this week. Users no longer need to store music on their smartphones and block valuable storage space and can now stream their favourite music non-stop from ‘Thaala’.
