Jumping on board the exciting universes of the Cyber world, Etisalat Lanka will switch on as telecommunications partner for Gamer.lk, for the next year.
Championing the cause of competitive on-line gaming, the Etisalat ‘Hang-out’ will be host to many cyber-competitions in Colombo, Kandy and Pollonaruwa in the year to come.
The Etisalat hang-out serves as a free of charge hub for young adults to surf the Internet, watch movies, play video and cyber games. This in turn will not only encourage Sri Lankans to be a part of the fast emerging and evolving cyber- universe, but also serve in bringing together the existing Gaming community and the Hang-out members. It will further enable Etisalat to foster a long-term relationship with Sri Lanka’s gaming community and enter the revolutionary sphere of e-gaming, which is fast establishing itself on an international platform.
Etisalat Director Dumindra Ratnayaka agreed that there is huge potential for Sri Lanka’s cyber athletes to compete on an international platform; “Etisalat are thrilled to be a part of promoting a competitive gaming atmosphere in Sri Lanka and paving the way for prospective cyber athletes to learn, contend and enjoy.” He added, “We were the telecommunications partners for the Sri Lanka Cyber Games 2010” (SLGC ‘10) which was an absolute hit and we hope to partner Gamer.lk in enabling many more e-competitions in future.”
Etisalat logged on as the telecommunications sponsor for SLGC ‘10 as the country’s elite gamers gathered to battle it out on-line in Colombo and for the first time in Kandy, seeing a record high of 1000 participants engaging in fierce Cyber combat to win the title of Sri Lanka’s Cyber Champion 2010. The event also hosted Sri Lanka’s inaugural international exhibition match, where the Maldives national team played against the SLGC’ 10 champions, in which Sri Lanka claimed victory. The action detonated at the preliminary regional encounters with the grand finals at Infotel 2010.
