The awards were presented under the categories; Champion App of the Year, Information App of the Year, Education App of the Year, Health App of the Year, Entertainment App of the Year, Sports App of the Year, Business App of the Year, New Entrant App of the Year and Android Challenge.
Elaborating on the award categories Director / CEO Dumindra Ratnayaka said: “AppZone Champions Awards 2013 not only recognises entrepreneurs, who have become successful in app development through hosting their SMS apps in AppZone, it also holds an Android Category to reward those who have created Android apps. Through this we intend to encourage local app developers to come up with innovative android apps. In addition, we have also conducted programmes to enhance the marketing skills of all these app developers to better enable them to improve and carry out their marketing campaigns on their own.”
Commenting on the reason behind the awards ceremony hSenid CEO Dinesh Saparamadu said: “A majority of these app developers are those who started off as university students and have now become entrepreneurs. These awards add value to these app developers, who are not being recognised by any other organisation for their creations and hard work. We believe that this motivates these app developers to come up with more innovative creations, and in turn increase their revenues.”
The grand Prize ‘Champion App of the Year’ is awarded to the best revenue earning app. The organisers have introduced the ‘New Entrant App’ category to motivate new SMS based app developers who have not been in the AppZone long enough to generate a high level of revenue when compared to the others.
