ESET, a global leader in IT security, recognised as a pioneer of proactive protection against cyber threats and secure content management, recently appointed Sri Lanka’s favourite cricketer and former captain of the Sri Lankan national team, Kumar Sangakkara, as their Brand Ambassador in Sri Lanka. Considered a gentleman cricketer for his unique style of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara is widely regarded as one of the most influential cricketers of all time and globally recognised for his contributions to the game.

ESET believes that Sangakkara’s appointment comes at the right time when there is considerable interest generated on the importance of cyber security in Sri Lanka.

Commenting on the occasion, ESET Sales and Marketing Director for Asia Pacific Parvinder Walia says: “We are indeed thrilled to appoint Kumar Sangakkara as our Brand Ambassador in Sri Lanka. He is not only a world-renowned cricketer but also a legend who has displayed outstanding skills, both on and off the field. He has worn his credentials well and has always remained firmly grounded.”

Walia adds: “The biggest challenge in cyber security is building awareness of the threats that exist online, educating consumers about online safety best practices, and reminding them to stay vigilant. With Kumar Sangakkara on board as our Brand Ambassador, we are looking forward to building a greater awareness of cyber security issues in Sri Lanka and making the online world safer for businesses and consumers.”

Commenting on his appointment, Kumar Sangakkara says: “I’m very excited to be supporting ESET in Sri Lanka as their official Brand Ambassador. The business world is increasingly using Internet based resources and in keeping with global trends, Internet usage rate in Sri Lanka has increased considerably. There is also an increase in usage of hand held devices for surfing the web for work and for leisure.  This means that the risk of cyber-threats looms large and it’s critical for all of us to know how to protect ourselves from online threats.”

ESET provides exceptional country-specific cyber security coverage and also provides alerts on threats specific to Sri Lanka, ensuring that Sri Lankan businesses and consumers can stay safe from online threats, reiterates Walia.

ESET products are distributed by DCS International Private Limited in Sri Lanka, as an exclusive distributor since 2010, and have established a considerable presence in the corporate and retail world.

“Over a span of just five years, ESET has been able to capture a commendable 22% of the market in Sri Lanka by delivering continuous protection against an array of existing and emerging threats,” says DCS International Chairman Nabhan Akeel. “We’re excited to work together with Kumar Sangakkara to build greater levels of  awareness about the need of dependable cyber security products and solutions in the country.”
