Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson) announced that it recently shipped its 60 millionth high-temperature polysilicon (HTPS) TFT panel for 3LCD projection systems.
Epson has maintained its position as the industry’s leading supplier of HTPS-TFT panels, the key component in 3LCD projectors for over 20 years through the constant refinement of the technology to improve performance.
Highlights in 2009 for HTPS-TFT panels included the launch of full-scale volume production of the world’s smallest XGA panel and the world’s first WUXGA panel and development of the world’s first 4K resolution panel.
Along with the improved capabilities of projectors, the range of applications continues to expand. In addition to being used for business presentations, projectors are now gaining wider use in the classroom, auditoriums and at large-scale events.
Moving forward, the growth in demand for widescreen image projection spurred by the spread of widescreen PC monitors, digital broadcasts and high-definition video players is expected to increase the need for even brighter, higher contrast and more compact high-performance products.
Epson is committed to supporting the growing range of projector applications by combining its cutting-edge liquid crystal, high-aperture ratio and other original technologies to expand and enhance its HTPS line-up with panels that further raise the performance of 3LCD projectors.
