‘Most expensive’ domain name Gay.xxx sold for $500,000 to porn company

London (ANI): The internet address Gay.xxx has been sold to a porn production company for 500,000 dollars, making it the most expensive domain name sold in an extension that is not yet publicly open for registration.

Gay film company based in Las Vegas, Corbin Fisher, purchased the web address.

The .xxx domain has been opposed by pornographers, who argue that it will ghettoise sex websites.

Websites with the extension have already been banned in India, and the porn industry worries that other countries may follow suit, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the paper, the most expensive domain name till date is believed to be sex.com, which sold for 13 million dollars last year.

ICM Registry that controls the allocation of .xxx addresses, has raised concerns over potential misuse of the extension.

They have compiled a secret list of 4,300 celebrities whose names would not be allowed to be used as .xxx addresses.

This includes BritneySpears.xxx, BradPitt.xxx and DavidCameron.xxx.

The rules also protect dead celebrities, therefore, MarilynMonroe.xxx and OsamaBinLaden.xxx would not be going up for sale.
