A new smartphone that will dramatically demolish perceptions of the high cost of top-end technology has been unveiled in Sri Lanka by E-tel, with the launch of its ‘Curiosity L2’ – a Full HD, Octa Core processor powered, best-in-class mobile phone at an incredibly affordable price.
Launched in association with Etisalat Lanka, the pioneering mobile telecommunications operator in the island, the new smartphone matches the specifications and performance of the most expensive branded smartphones in the market at one fourth the price, making cutting-edge mobile phone technology accessible to a large segment of the user base, importer Brantel said.
E-tel is currently the only brand present among the top three of both the Feature phone and Smartphone segments in the local market, according to the market intelligence and advisory firm CyberMedia Research (CMR).
Commenting on the launch, Etisalat Lanka Chief Commercial Officer Janaka Jayalath said: “We are delighted to add this latest smartphone from E-tel to the extensive range of phones we offer through our Etisalat flagship outlets located across Sri Lanka. Brantel CEO Bishri Latiff said: “The E-tel Curiosity L2 perfectly represents the Brantel philosophy of packaging the latest features and processors with great design aesthetics and reliability, all benchmarked for local conditions and local purses. The first Octa Core smartphone in the Sri Lankan market was the E-tel ‘Curiosity O9’ which was launched almost a year ago. The Curiosity L2 is a huge advancement on that phone in terms of its display, memory, cameras and other features.”
Powered by a 1.4 GHz Octa-Core Processor, the E-tel Curiosity L2 runs on the Android 4.4 ‘Kit Kat’ operating system. The sleek and stylish white and dull gold casing precision cut with diamond –tipped cutting tools, features a full HD 5-inch 16.7 million colour AMOLED screen, a 13 mega pixel auto-focus CMOS sensor back camera with flash, a 5 mega pixel front camera with default ‘face beauty’ function and dual microphones.
The dual SIM phone has a standard and a micro SIM port, is HSPA and Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi Hotspot enabled, has 2GB of RAM and 16 GB ROM, an external memory slot that can accommodate up to 32GB, Video and Skype calling facility, and a host of other features and apps that will satisfy the most demanding smartphone users.
The E-tel Curiosity L2 is priced at Rs. 29,900 and comes with a free protective flip cover valued at Rs. 1,750. Besides the Etisalat flagship outlets, the phone will be retailed through nearly 2,000 dealer outlets in Sri Lanka and via Brantel service centres in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Matara, Negombo and Jaffna.
E-tel phones are designed in Hong Kong and manufactured in three top ten ranked manufacturing facilities in China that produce branded smartphones for the European and US markets, guaranteeing the same high level of quality, consistency and performance.
Named after the Curiosity rover sent to Mars, the E-tel smartphone range sold in Sri Lanka now comprises of the Curiosity i2, i4, i406, i5c, i6 and i7c series, the Curiosity N3 released in early March 2014, the Curiosity O9 released in late July 2014, the Curiosity N4 ‘Double Wonder’ released in March this year, and the Curiosity L2.
Brantel has been in operation in Sri Lanka since 2004 and launched the E-tel brand in 2008.
