DMS Electronics (DMSE) and HP sponsored the Annual NOC meeting and Campus Network Design workshop which was conducted by the Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN) recently in partnership with the Information Technology Centre University of Peradeniya.
The workshop focused on sharing best practices for campus wide network optimisation for system engineers and administrators of LEARN member institutions. It also formed a working group to steer and support deployment of technologies such as Voice Over IP and IPv6 across all member institutes of LEARN.
Further the workshop provided hands-on training for the attendees on configuration of networking equipment for campus network design and optimisation. LEARN provided the necessary network equipment for the workshop.
“This workshop, equips the relevant systems engineers and administrators with the skills to provide the best possible services and maintain state of the art networking systems for our member institutions,” said Prof. K.S. Walgama, CEO, of LEARN.
LEARN currently interconnects all of the UGC funded state universities, a number of higher educational institutes under other ministries, the University Grants Commission, Ministry of Higher Education, and a number of national research institutions including the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Ricardo Senathirajah, Group Manager, Unified Communication Solutions at DMS Electronics said: “As one of the leading network infrastructure and IT solution providers especially in the education sector DMSE and HP were glad to partner with LEARN on this initiative. These workshops for the key stakeholders of the member institutes would greatly benefit the future generations enrolling in these institutions. Both LEARN and its members have taken the lead in embracing latest technologies such as Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Openflow in providing innovative services for their institutions.”
