Dialog appoints new Group GCOO, GCSO

  • Supun Weerasinghe takes up regional role as Group Chief Strategy Officer for Axiata

Dialog Axiata announced the appointment of Azwan Khan Osman Khan as its new Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO) recently, taking over from Supun Weerasinghe, who took up a regional role as Axiata Group Chief Strategy Officer (GCSO).

Azwan Khan, will be responsible of the group’s mobile, television, broadband, fixed and international businesses as well as group corporate planning and business control. Azwan moves to Sri Lanka seconded from the Axiata Group, where he served as the GCSO since 2008.

Prior to 2008, he was the Senior Vice President Corporate Strategy and Development at Celcom Axiata, the group’s mobile subsidiary in Malaysia since 2005.  Azwan’s career also features tenures with the Boston Consulting Group and Shell Malaysia. He is an engineering graduate (first class honours) from the Imperial College, University of London.

As Axiata GCSO, Supun Weerasinghe will take on the group strategy role as COO of Axiata’s Network Transformation Strategic Business Unit (NTS).

Weerasinghe’s move to Kuala Lumpur as Axiata Group GCSO is a part of the group’s senior talent acceleration and cross-market rotation program.  

Weerasinghe was appointed as Dialog GCOO in January 2011, prior to which he led the operations of the Dialog Group’s mobile business for several years. He holds a B.Sc. (first class honours) in accountancy and financial management from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and a MBA from the University of Western Sydney, Australia.

Weerasinghe is a Fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCIMA) UK and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School (AMP 182).
