APICTA 2015 in Sri Lanka

A great opportunity to position the country among Asia Pacific nations

The Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) will conduct its annual proceedings of 2015 including its renowned international awards ceremony APICTA 2015 in Sri Lanka. This was decided at their last executive council meeting held in Bangkok recently said Dr. Dileepa De Silva, Chairman of APICTA.

“This is a great opportunity for Sri Lanka to position the country among the international communities. We can promote our products and services and this enables us to showcase our talents to the world. APICTA also brings leading ICT firms and professionals to a single place and we can certainly look forward for new business opportunities, investments, joint ventures and technology transfers with APICTA 2015,” said Dr. De Silva. “I consider winning the opportunity to host this prestigious event in Sri Lanka as a remarkable achievement and a testimony for what we have been doing for the APICTA community as a country. I appreciate the untiring efforts of BCS Sri Lanka Section and the Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) being the partners representing Sri Lanka and also the ICT Agency Sri Lanka, the apex body for ICT development in winning this,” he concluded. Chinthaka Wijewickrama, Chairman of FITIS, Fayaz Hudah, Senior Program Head of ICT Agency Sri Lanka (ICTA) and Alanzo Doll, Executive Committee member of BCS Sri Lanka Section attended the last council meeting. APICTA has the mandate of promoting ICT knowledge, awareness and usage among its member countries. APICTA plays a pivotal role in recognising the domestic ICT products in the member economies and enhancing the quality standards to world class through various programs. It stimulates economic and trade relations through technology transfer, joint R&D initiatives, investments and business match making. APICTA currently has 18 member economies including Australia, Brunei, Bangladesh, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam. In addition, several other countries are being evaluated at present for membership. Dr. De Silva who is a well-known ICT consultant in the region has been with APICTA from its inception. He served as an Executive Council member and a judge of the APICTA international competition for several years. He also served as the head of judging panels and in the recent years as an advisor to the judging panels. He was unanimously appointed as the Chairman of APICTA from January 2015 at its last Annual General Meeting held in Hong Kong in November 2014. Shanta R. Yapa, President of FITIS Software Chapter and Ruwan Amarasekara, Secretary of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, Sri Lanka Section represent Sri Lanka at present in APICTA Executive Council.
