AMCHAM’S 2nd IPR awareness campaign gets under way

The second IPR enforcer education initiative by the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (AMCHAM) commenced recently, at the National Police Academy Katana. From the Special Crimes Investigations Bureaus islandwide 58 OIC’s gathered for a five day residential diploma course on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).  



The course is being conducted by retired DIG and attorney at law M.K.D.W. Amarasinghe and Attorney-at-Law Deshan Hewavithana, and associates Sudath Perera who are well versed in the subject of IPR law.

Addressing the gathering, SSP Asanga Karawita thanked AMCHAM President Vijaya Ratnayake, for facilitating this diploma course.  

Ratnayake, in his presentation, gave an insight into AMCHAM’s activities and its involvement in carrying out island wide public awareness programs. The objective of the campaign is to educate the public on the importance of buying genuine products and to generate awareness, in respect of counterfeits.  

AMCHAM presently airs TV advertisements in all three languages on Sirasa, Shathi and MTV Sports and carries out newspaper campaigns in all three languages in the Daily News, Dinamina and Veerakesari newspapers.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka has taken a key role in the past and shall continue to do so in the future to facilitate awareness and enforce the existing IPR law in Sri Lanka.
