Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, today announced that it has successfully completed the audit for ISMS (Information Security Management System) and BCMS (Business Continuity Management System) and received the re-certification of ISO 27001 for ISMS and an upgrade from BS 25999 to ISO 22301 for BCMS in its operations in Sri Lanka. Previously, Airtel Lanka had secured BS 25999 for BCMS, issued by the British Standard Institution, which has now been upgraded to ISO 22301 as per international standards. It is thus the first telecom operator in Sri Lanka to be upgraded for its Business Continuity Management System. Airtel Lanka achieved this accreditation after a rigorous assessment process which symbolises its commitment towards service excellence and the strength of measures that the company has taken to ensure the quality of services across its island-wide network.
Commenting on the occasion, Bharti Airtel Lanka CEO/MD Suren Goonewardene said: “Acquiring these certificates reflects Airtel Lanka’s constant attention for quality assurance. We are proud to be the only telecommunications operator in Sri Lanka to receive both certifications for all locations, which includes the corporate office in the World Trade Centre, the three brand shops located in Colombo 3, Kandy and Galle, the Data Centre and MSC, and all the departments involved in these locations. We recognise the importance of uninterrupted communication in the world today for both corporate and domestic customers. We strive to ensure that continuity in communications is available in Sri Lanka at all times so our customers can enjoy uninterrupted communication and strong business solutions.”
Through ISO 27001 for Information Security, Airtel Lanka guarantees security of corporate and customer information. It is implemented through the concepts of ‘confidentiality’, ‘integrity’ and ‘availability’ and leads to maximising the quality and efficiency of Airtel Lanka’s services based on the international best practices provided along with the ‘plan, do, check and act’ concept.
With the upgrade to ISO 22301 for business continuity, Airtel Lanka is equipped with resilience and disaster management as it ensures an uninterrupted delivery of services in the face of any disaster. This will aid in increasing customer confidence and increasing reputation. The universal acceptance of ISO standards will also result in getting a competitive advantage for the brand in the international business arena.
As the ISO certification process provides a detailed understanding of the entire organisation and its processes, opportunities for improvement have been identified and implemented.
These will be maintained and enhanced through continuous audits and management system updates. With these certifications, Airtel Lanka will continue to provide excellent service to the customers exceeding their expectations.
