SAP AG has announced that Access Engineering, Sri Lanka’s leading infrastructure development solutions provider, has chosen the latest version of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) application, SAP ERP 6.0 to streamline core business operations and improve the efficiency of its IT reporting environment across its Corporate and site offices in the country. With this, the company became the first in the Sri Lankan engineering and construction industry to implement SAP. Access Engineering is associated with region’s largest and most prestigious civil engineering projects including bridges and flyovers to roads and highways, harbour projects, water supply schemes and optical fibre backbone projects. The company, with workforce of 3,000, has executed more than 100 projects to date and has been the strength behind many infrastructure development programs across the island. “The construction industry in Sri Lanka has witnessed stupendous growth in recent years due to increased investments in infrastructure and real estate. This brings with it a growth in the volume of transactions leading to an increase in the complexity of the business which requires a strong technology expertise and product road map to meet this growth in demand,” said V.K. Manatunge, Senior General Manager, Access Engineering PLC. “The SAP solution will place us in good stead and assist in streamlining the flow of information across different projects and departments. The best practices brought in will assist us in identifying low value-added activities and improvement of process efficiency.” The SAP Solution can assist in boosting organisation‐wide project management capabilities and improving visibility and control throughout the lifecycle of the project. “Over the past few years, we have witnessed exponential growth in the Engineering Construction and Operation sector in Sri Lanka and some companies start to recognize the strategic value of IT implementation,” said Priyadarshi Mohapatra, Vice-President, Ecosystem, Channels and General Business, SAP Indian subcontinent. “We are confident that Access Engineering will be able to leverage our technology to gain better business visibility and support future expansion and growth.” As the leader in ERP solutions for the Engineering Construction and Operation (EC&O) industry, SAPsolutions cover the entire spectrum of processes in the industry including bid management, design management, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance. It also helps maximise productivity and profitability of project resources, including materials, equipment and labour.
