ABC Radio Networks wins five e-Swabhimani awards

ABC Radio Networks collected five awards at the e-Swabhimani Awards Gala 2011, becoming the first radio station to ever win an award in the history of the ceremony.

The e-Swabhimani Awards Gala hosted by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) recognises the creativity and innovation in digital content and applications by developers in the country.

Focusing on areas such as web content, technology and user friendliness, the competitors were selected after a two-month long research conducted by local and foreign experts. Maintaining seven highly popular websites and five radio networks, ABC Radio networks scooped up wins in two categories out of the six, triumphing amongst the other 150 finalists for the awards presented.

Three stations from the ABC radio network won awards for their innovative applications and digital content.

Hiru FM, a multi award winning radio channel in Sri Lanka, won ‘Best Sinhala Radio Station’ and ‘Best Sinhala News Website’ by their extensive base of listeners.

Sooriyan FM, Sri Lanka’s first private Tamil radio channel won ‘Best Tamil Radio Station of the Year’ and ‘Best Tamil News Website’. Their innovative programming strategy has made Sooriyan FM the epitome in Tamil broadcasting.

Gold FM, the highest rated English radio channel in Sri Lanka won the award for ‘Best English News website’ and continues to uphold its reputation with their audiences locally and internationally.
