Abans laptops to empower Sri Lanka Knowledge Hub

Abans recently contributed Laptops to the Knowledge Hub initiative in Sri Lanka, a program spearheaded by Lalith Weeratunga - Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka.

Mahinda Chintana - Vision for the Future envisages transforming Sri Lanka into a strategically important economic centre. Part of this vision entails the developing of five strategic knowledge hubs to usher Sri Lanka to the Knowledge Economy. A target has been set for the year 2015 to increase knowledge through broadband access to 60%, increase IT Literacy to 75%, provide 80,000 knowledge based jobs, increase foreign earnings by US$1 billion and to promote technology based local innovations and companies.

An ambitious action plan has already been put into motion. It requires the setting up of a high level task force, inviting Trans National Companies and companies with top brand names to participate, capacity building and skills development, identifying training requirements, facilitate programmes to train graduates and school leavers, facilitate accreditation of institutions and standardisation of tests, promote IT Parks in all provinces, encourage the use of IT solutions in government institutions, promotion of the industry locally and improve local infrastructure facilities.
