Microsoft has announced that Team AlgoR, composed of students Nissanka Seneviratne (SLIIT), Buwaneka De Silva (ESOFT Sri Lanka), and Anushka Hapukotwa (SLIIT), will be representing Sri Lanka at the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2018Regional Finals to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 3 to 5 April.
The team from Sri Lanka emerged as one of the two winners in the South East Asia qualifier where seven countries in total were represented. Built on Azure’s machine learning capabilities, Team AlgoR’s FarmAI solution aims to make farming more sustainable. The app is capable of harnessing contextual information and delivering actionable insights in real-time.The team hopes that their invention will help local farmers modernise the agricultural sector.
Teams from Asia Pacific including AlgoR will be competing at the regional finals for a coveted spot in the Imagine Cup World Finals in Redmond, Washington where the winner will walk away with a $ 100,000 cash prize.
This year’s Imagine Cup will empower the next generation of computer science students to team up and use their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to create applications that shape how we live, work and play.
