The current market is saturated with many fake products, and JBL speakers are one of the main items that can be seen in several places. It’s important to check the authenticity of any product you purchase to avoid unnecessary hassle and wastage after buying.

The packaging of an authentic JBL is high in quality to ensure that the product is safe from tampering, mishandling and product exchange. Taking a closer look at the packaging, the print contrast and quality of the print on the genuine portable box is superior to the counterfeit. The authentic box is constructed out of a high quality hard cardboard flap-packaging without a sleeve, whereas a counterfeit box will feature a sleeve cover. You can see detailed textured printing on the original packaging as well as a serial number, bar code stickers, brand fine print plus compliance icons while counterfeit packaging will have no such detailing. Inside the authentic box flap, lifestyle imagery and brand detailing are clearly visible.

A flushed power button in the centre and an embedded JBL logo within the portable grill can be found on the authentic portable. A counterfeit speaker will have a protruding power button and logo on the portable grill. The JBL name is also engraved on the rubber flap of an original portable. The packaging of an authentic portable includes a flat power cable packed with a plastic shrink wrap, whereas the counterfeit packaging will only contain a round cable that is tied up. Genuine JBL portables are waterproof, features a power bank mode where you can charge your mobile device, longer battery life, and better sound quality and bass. None of these features can be found on a counterfeit portable.

Counterfeit products tend to be very inferior quality which may break down or stop working within a short period of time. Most times, they do not contain a warranty, hence the risk of the product being hazardous and causing dangerous explosions is high.

As the authorised distributor for JBL in Sri Lanka, Abans has now introduced a process to verify if your JBL speaker is genuine or fake. Simply SMS the serial number on the speaker to 011 555 0000. A reply message will be sent from Abans confirming or denying the authenticity.
