SLASSCOM signs MoU with SLTC Research University

Sri Lanka Association for Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) with a view to accelerate the growth of the country’s IT/BPM industry and to support an export-based ecosystem worth $ 5 billion, has initiated a number of developmental and educational initiatives with the intention of achieving this goal. 

One such initiative is the SLASSCOM Academy that was launched in 2021 with the aim of bringing world-class learning experiences through partnerships with global and local organisations. 

In an effort to keep up with the pace of capacity related demands from the tech industry the SLASSCOM Academy recently signed an MoU with SLTC Research University to offer local students and member companies a range of programs. The agreement was virtually signed between the SLASSCOM Chairperson Sandra De Zoysa and SLTC CEO Ranjith Rubasinghe on the 24 May.

Speaking at the event, Sri Lanka Technological Campus CEO Ranjith Rubasinghe added: “Our work ethos and the underlying core values, revolve around enabling life advancement; presenting educational opportunities; and enabling career progression, irrespective of educational background, age, work experience, and affordability. Whilst being an institution that enables all that, we also want to ensure it forms the nucleus of the evolving future.

“Therefore, we believe this partnership with SLASSCOM and the MoU we’ve signed will open doors to many, to a future that’s yet to be seen, in an industry that’s expected to contribute $ 5 billion to the local economy and is projected to grow exponentially. The program structures, learning platforms, and academic content that we plan to launch as a result of this partnership, will no doubt mould individuals who’d be capable of designing and defining the evolving IT industry.”

The programs offered through this MoU include, Data Analytics Program for Non-Tech Professionals, Frontend Developer Program, Full Stack Developer Program and UX/UI Program. The collaboration between the two organisations is expected to create timely and valuable learning opportunities for students and professionals.  

SLASSCOM Chairperson Sandra De Zoysa added: “Our vision is to establish the SLASSCOM Academy as a focal point for integrating knowledge streams from the most renowned universities and institutions from across the world, enabling easy access to those within our industry.  “This will provide an opportunity to accelerate the knowledge and proficiency related to current and emerging technologies of our workforce, by upskilling/ cross-skilling to build the much needed demands of capacity. Our MoU with SLTC Research University is built on the intention of strengthening and gearing the nation’s IT industry to capitalise on the demand for tech and non-tech professionals “

SLASSCOM Board Director Nishan Mendis added: “The programs offered through our MoU with SLTC Research University are designed to help individuals access felicitous learning opportunities that will strengthen individual’s professional contribution to the IT-BPM industry and thereby strengthen the industry as a whole by reducing the gap between demand and supply for tech talent. 

“We strongly believe that this well timed and pioneering partnership between us at SLASSCOM and SLTC, will help to nurture our future talent to become seasoned professionals and leaders within the It-BPM industry.” 

SLASSCOM’s focus on uplifting and empowering Sri Lanka’s IT/BPM industry to become a major player in global markets is only strengthened further with the programs offered through the SLASSCOM Academy that will help accelerate talent development in current and future technologies, which in turn will fuel the IT/BPM industry’s growth trajectory.
