Capitalising on the immense success and acceptance received for the competition, the Faculty of Computing of SLIIT in collaboration with the Ministry of Education will conduct the Codefest competition for the seventh consecutive year. With its objective of shaping Sri Lanka as the knowledge hub of Asia, Codefest is organised to promote software application design amongst the school and university level students island-wide.
Under the theme ‘Coding for Humanity and Beyond’, Codefest 2018 is designed to create the platform for young minds to tap into their ICT knowledge and skills and compete under three key categories; school, tertiary and open.
Under the school category, the students will be provided with the opportunity to compete in three contests; Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary and ICT Quiz, whilst the university students can participate in four categories including the Overnight Hackathon, Designation, Capture the flag and Netcom contest. Further, the open category will provide the opportunity for contestants to participate in the Emerging Innovator contest.
“The goal of Codefest is to foster and promote ICT throughout Sri Lanka in order to make our nation the knowledge hub in Asia. Codefest has been recognized by the Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure as a national event. It has been a remarkable event for the past six years and we hope that this year too it will be a huge success,” commented Dr. PradeepAbeygunawardhana, Coordinator of Codefest 2018 of SLIIT.
Codefest will also set grounds for a concurrent workshop in addition to the contests which will be held in many locations including Colombo, Gampaha and Kandy and with the association of the Ministry of Education to expand the boundaries of the ICT knowledge of the participants.
“Codefest provides an ideal platform for school students to showcase their talents in software development. A national competition of this nature brings out the best in every student as they thrive to bring fame to their schools, said Dr. Malitha Wijesundara, Dean – Faculty of Science and Education, SLIIT.
The aspiring and potential ICT enthusiasts who have the passion to participate can register from 15 July and the final round will be held on 2 and 3 October where the winners will be recognised and will receive attractive prizes.
Registration forms can be downloaded via the Codefest official website www.codefest.lk. Dr. Pradeep Abeygunawardhana, Coordinator – Codefest 2018 can be contacted via 076 728 3840 or [email protected] for further information or any inquiry regarding the competition.
