The Industrial Information Unit of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Consultancy Services under aegis of the Industrial Development Board of Ceylon (IDB) has organised a one-day seminar on digital marketing via Facebook, Google and You Tube for the benefit of Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs).
The proposed seminar will commence at 9 a.m., Saturday, 6 October at the IDB Auditorium, Katubedda, Moratuwa.
The organisers of the seminar told the Daily News, the IT Unit of the IDB has taken this step, underscoring the importance of equipping the SMEs with the new knowledge of digital marketing and to get them involved in exploring the new trends
The IT Unit of the IDB plans to conduct a series of seminars, leading to organise workshops in a future date, to enhance the knowledge of those participating in the seminar and those others directly involved in the SMEs.
“We are confident the proposed seminar and the future workshops would help to eradicate any fear SMEs entertain and make them voluntarily adapt to new technology and pursue vital trends, which are most beneficial to them in the long run,” IT sources said.
The seminar will focus attention on different strategies of digital marketing:
“With strenuous adaptation of the aforesaid digital marketing strategies, we are quite confident that there would be a very positive impact impressed on SMEs’ performance,” IT sources said.
As the concept of globalisation has touched and drenched every nook and corner, the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) could not escape from this reality, the IT Unit said.
If the SMEs want to survive and be successful, they need to fall in line with transformation taking place globally and enter into the next phase of development while promoting their products and services.
We are in the era of technology and innovation. This keeps bringing plethora of changes to almost every field such as entrepreneurship, business and marketing, the IT sources added.
It is claimed that marketing is both an art and a science, which is full of creativity. While the artistic perception of marketing attracts internal and external stake holders to make it a sustainable strategy which would in turn convince the top management. The scientific perception blends and do justice to one’s business.
According to the IT Unit of the IDB, right now the SMEs are in a better position to access global market and share the relevant information of specific customers to customise their products and services to par with the ultimate customer requirement.
Prior to the introduction of digital era, print media contributed heavily to create awareness about business via newspaper advertisements, pamphlets or leaflets. But today popularising or globalising a business could be done instantly via the digital media. With a single click today the customer could purchase any product or service and this demands SMEs business activities keep live rolling and in turn this helps SMEs to reach massive flow of customers, using the internet facility, costing less.
The SMEs also could meet their technical and other staff requirements from any part of the globe and rectify faults and failures in quick time unlike in the past. The system also gives them the opportunity to share material, machinery and other equipment and are also in a much better position to hire online consultants whenever they in need of such assistance and guidance, the IT sources pointed out.
