Informatics Institute of Technology, the pioneer in providing British Higher Education in Sri Lanka, joins hands with FITIS to sponsor winners of young computer scientist (YCS) to showcase their ICT innovations at the APICTA Awards in Vietnam.
The FITIS Young Computer Scientist Program enjoys a history of 18 long years and is recognised as an important competition which exposes the computing talents of school children at an early age and encourages them to develop their talents and earn recognition for the ICT innovations. It is conducted in association with the Ministry of Education and the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC). The winners of the YCS competition will have the opportunity to showcase their ICT innovations at the APICTA Awards, dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the ICT industry.
This year there were six outstanding young Sri Lankan innovators between the ages of 10 and 20 who were adjudged the overall winners at the Young Computer Scientist Competition 2019 and will take part in the APICTA competition.
The students who are to represent Sri Lanka at the APICTA Awards are B.G.N.A. Gamarachchi (age 18) from Ranabima Royal College Kandy, H.M.M.K.K.B. Herath (aged 19) of Poramadulla Central Kandy, W.N.D. Fernando (aged 20) of Ch/Medagama Abhaya from Chilaw, S.B. Karunasena (aged 15) of OKI International Biyagama as well as L.Y. Jayasinghe (aged 13) of Thurstan College Colombo and K.R. Dhanapala (aged 10) of Sri Rahula College Anuradhapura.
Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) was established in Colombo in 1990 as the first private higher education institute awarding reputed British degrees in the fields of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Business. IIT has reshaped and revolutionised the higher education sector of Sri Lanka by empowering graduates to become innovators, entrepreneurs and business leaders. Over the course of three decades, IIT has established itself as a pioneer, providing British higher education. Currently, IIT has produced more than 3000 graduates who are spread across the country and beyond.
