The Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) has announced the appointment of Bhanuka Harischandra to the ICTA Board of Directors.
His appointment to the current role is to accelerate the digital transformation initiatives envisioned for Sri Lanka through the ICTA, which is the apex body of driving digital transformation in Sri Lanka.
Harischandra is the Founder/Chief Growth Officer of Surge Global, a digital consulting powerhouse helping global businesses transform and grow through marketing data and technology.
He is a self-taught entrepreneur that believes in testing and adapting to situations without conforming to set rules. His unstructured yet intentional approach to problem-solving acts as the fundamental lens in which he and Surge Global operates.
His career in the media and technology space began at the age of 19, with the launch of a YouTube Multi-Channel Network that helped over 600 content creators generate and monetise half a billion eSports video views.
In 2018, Surge Global managed to secure an investment from the Tavistock Group, a multi-billion dollar private investment organisation and managed to pivot Surge to focus on some of the groups’ most strategic and valuable investments.
Over the last five years, Harischandra has successfully led the digital strategy for a multibillion-dollar US smart city, Australia’s oldest operating public company, built the leading analytics software for authors, and successfully raised millions of dollars to launch several of Sri Lanka’s fastest growing names in tech.
He is a celebrated TEDx speaker and his contribution in the digital space has led to being recognised as part of the prestigious Forbes ‘30 Under 30’list in Asia for 2021.
Commenting on his new appointment, Bhanuka Harishchandra stated: “Digital experiences have now
become a part of our everyday lives. Sri Lanka has a lot of work ahead to ensure that the technology and
platforms that are being built are in line with global standards. I’m excited to be a part of the ICTA to help drive that change and make everyone’s digital lives at least a little better.”
