Continuing Sri Lanka’s collaboration in the field of education with the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, the Minister of Education of Sri Lanka Akila Viraj Kariyawasam signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of e-learning and Information Communication Technology (ICT) training in Sri Lanka, with Superintendent of the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Jang Hwi-guk on Monday 27 August in Gwangju city.
Under the MOU which remains in force until 2020, a training program on ICT is granted annually to Sri Lankan teachers and education officials. Accordingly, the 15th team comprising 20 teachers and four education officials from Sri Lanka were offered training by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education from 27 August to 10 September. Under the MOU, the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education will also provide 50 computers with accessories to Sri Lankan schools.
Minister Kariyawasam was accompanied on his visit to Gwangju from 27 to 29 August by Additional Secretary (School Affairs) Asoka Senani Hewage and Director (ICT) P.N. Ilapperuma, and supported by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Seoul.
